Resource Management Assistant (Student)

If you’re a student in biology or other science-related field, come make a difference by participating in the scientific monitoring of marine mammals and maritime traffic in this marine protected area.


The resource management assistant gathers data for studies that aim to document the coexistence of marine mammals and maritime traffic in the mouth of the Saguenay, Baie Sainte-Marguerite and the coastal zone of the Lower St. Lawrence Estuary. There are also possibilities to participate in data collection on board excursion boats to characterize observation activities in the waters of the Marine Park.

Workplace: Tadoussac, Baie-Sainte-Catherine, Baie-Sainte-Marguerite, Les Bergeronnes, Les Escoumins 

Period of employment: June 1 to August 21, 2026 (including paid training at the start of employment)

Type of job: Full time (37.5 hours/week)

Salary: Hourly rate between $19.78 and $25.17, depending on level of education completed

Eligibility requirements:

  • Be registered full- or part-time in a college- or university-level program for winter and fall sessions 2026
  • Reside or study within a 500 km radius of Tadoussac*

Main tasks:

  • Collect data on marine mammals and maritime traffic from a fixed point on the shore,
  • Collect data on the presence of marine mammals and observation activities at sea from excursion boats.
  • Manage, enter, and verify field data using Microsoft Excel or Access.
  • Interact with visitors, including answering questions about the monitoring protocol and ongoing work.
  • Provide support to the conservation team in various related tasks.
  • Work mainly independently.

Conditions of employment:

  • Be available full-time for the duration of the job, between early June and late August. The end date may be adjusted depending on when you return to school.
  • Obtain a Government of Canada reliability rating (criminal background check).
  • Possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license.
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Agree to wear Parks Canada uniform and provided personal protective equipment (PPE).            
  • Perform work requiring moderate and sustained effort in variable weather conditions, including walking and cycling while carrying equipment, working while standing, etc.
  • Work and travel to different sites within the marine park, using various means of transportation. Occasional work in the intertidal zone or on a boat may be required.                    

*Possibility to rent a room in a house reserved for students, depending on availability
